This is the comfrey you want for your garden. The Russian comfrey, Symphytum × uplandicum is a sterile hybrid between Symphytum officinale (common comfrey) and Symphytum asperum (rough comfrey). It won’t self seed all around your garden, but be careful were you plant it as you will never get rid of it.

Grow your own fertilizer with comfrey! Comfrey roots are able to mine  soils for minerals and other nutrients, it is a dynamic accumulator plant. You can use comfrey either directly as mulch, in the compost bin or make liquid fertilizer out of it. Mature comfrey plants can be cut several times each season, ideal for smaller gardens. It is an excellent plant around fruit trees, the decaying leaves add to the soil fertility.

Cut down your feed costs with home grown chicken food! Comfrey is a valuable chicken food which improves the egg quality and keeps your birds healthy.

Comfrey likes to be planted in full sun or part shade. To give the plants a headstart, plant them in ‘fertile holes’. Otherwise, comfrey is not fussy about the soil.
