Old man saltbush is a tough bush food plant, which copes with drought, salinity and sandy soil, once established. Otherwise it is happy in a bigger pot.

Old man saltbush is suitable for cool and warm temperate, arid and sub-tropical climates. It needs well-drained soil and watering until the shrub is established. The soil ph should be at least 6 and not acidic.
