About This Plant

Note: the passionfruit we are selling at the moments are seedlings in forestry tubes, approximately 10 cm high.

Why Passionfruit?

Passionfruit is easy to grow and will fruit in 2-3 years. You might harvest buckets full of passionfruit, just figure out how much you would pay in the supermarket! The flowers are very pretty too! Ideal climber for hiding an ugly shed or a colourbond fence.

Ideal for home gardens, tropical and subtropical and warm-temperate regions, it produces abundant fruit for fresh eating, preserves, and juices.

Tip: For a slightly different flavour and appearance, try Panama Red — similar care, but fruit may be larger and less acidic.

Growth & Care

Sun: Full sun for best fruiting. Partial shade reduces yield.
Soil: Well-drained, fertile soil rich in organic matter.
Water: Keep consistently moist; drought reduces flowering and fruit set.
Fertilizer: Balanced fertiliser or compost every 6–8 weeks during the growing season; phosphorus encourages flowers and fruit.
Drainage: Critical — roots dislike waterlogging.

Fruit Set & Harvest

  • Life expectancy: 5–8 years (vigorous perennial vine)

  • Flowering: Spring to autumn in most climates; flowering improves with full sun and adequate water.

  • Fruit set: Bees are critical. You might want to hand-pollinate.

  • Harvest: 3–6 kg per mature vine per season is typical for home gardens.

  • Fruit use: Eat fresh, juice, preserves, desserts.

Pruning & Support

  • Requires trellis, fence, or pergola support.

  • Light pruning in winter or after harvest encourages new growth and fruiting shoots.
