About This Plant

This thyme is a very strong grower and you can harvest all the thyme you will need. Easy to grow, looks way prettier than the common thyme with its rounder and greener leaves. Frost hardy.  Culinary uses: Strong flavoured leaves combine the taste of oregano and thyme. Ideal for many Italian dishes including pizza, pasta and tomatoes.

The genus Thymus  contains about 350 species of aromatic plants a in the mint family. They are native to temperate regions in Europe, North Africa and Asia.

Thyme is an easy to grow, evergreen perennial which requires little to no care, thrives in poor soil and hot, dry conditions. It is well behaved in the garden, looks nice in rockleries or between stepping stones,as an edging plant or you can even plant it in stone walls.
Some thyme varieties have ornamental qualities only – I offer culinary thymes.

Thyme is high in many vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that are all essential for optimum health.

The leaves, and especially the essential oil contained in them, are strongly antiseptic, deodorant and disinfectant. The leaves contain an antioxidant and regular use of the raw leaves has been shown to increase average life expectancy by about 10%. The essential is used in aromatherapy to treat asthma and other respiratory complaints.
