Sweet Potato, Treasure Island Manihi – Ipomea batatas ‘Treasure Island Manihi’, 3 Unrooted Cuttings

About This Plant

Treasure Island Manihi Sweet Potato a sweet potato variety from the remote Manihi Atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago, French Polynesia is so pretty that it would pass as an ornamental ground cover.

You will receive 3 unrooted cuttings, prepared to either root them directly in the ground or prepare them in a pot or even a glass of water.

Why Treasure Island Manihi Stands Out

  • This variety really looks good even better than the other heart-shaped varieties.
  • Vibrant Roots: Smooth, golden-orange roots with an incredible aste, perfect for roasting, baking, mashing, or desserts.
  • Superior Eating Quality: Naturally sweet, creamy, and moist, delivering a richer flavour than common supermarket varieties.
  • Easy to Grow Anywhere Warm: Thrives in full sun and well-draining soil. Ideal for tropical, subtropical, and temperate gardens, grows well in the Port Stephens area.

How It Compares to Other Varieties

  • Vs. Beauregard or Okinawan: Brighter, more vibrant roots and a creamier texture, with a sweeter, tropical flavour.
  • Vs. Purple Varieties: While purple types excel in antioxidants, Treasure Island Manihi shines in sweetness, colour, and versatility in cooking.

Growing Tips

  1. Plant cuttings in sunny, fertile, well-draining soil. In hot weather it is better to root them in a pot or even a glass of water.
  2. Keep soil moist, especially in the early stages, but avoid waterlogging.
  3. Let vines sprawl or climb a trellis for easy harvesting and ornamental effect.
  4. Harvest after 3–5 months, when roots are fully matured and golden-orange.
