About this sweet potato variety

This is a herliom sweet potato we got at our visit at Zaytuna farm and we are very happy to share. As far as I remember, Geoff Lawton was given that sweet potato from an old local farmer. It is apparently very hardy (yes it is!) and very productive. I haven’t harvested yet and I let you know about the potatos later. The plants are very vigurous and the leaves are heart- shaped and it’s one of the cultivars that make a good groundcover. Just let it scramble under trees or grow them in beds as for any other sweet potato!

Growing tips:

  1. Plant cuttings in sunny, fertile, well-draining soil. In hot weather, it is better to root them in a pot or even a glass of water.
  2. Keep soil moist, especially in the early stages, but avoid waterlogging.
  3. Let vines sprawl or climb a trellis for easy harvesting and ornamental effect.
  4. Harvest after 3–5 months, when roots are fully matured.
