Sugar cane is a perennial clumping grass.
Sugar cane is a perfect permaculture plant producing plenty of biomass and creates a very quick windbreak. The leaves dropped and chopped make an excellent mulch.
The sugar is concentrated in the lower part of the stem. It can be eaten peeled, juice can be pressed
I find sugar cane quite ornamental.
Sugar cane likes sun, moisture and a well-drained, deep fertile soil.
