Brahmi – The Brain & Wellness Herb 🌿

Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri) is a versatile, easy-to-grow herb treasured for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine. Known as a powerful cognitive and wellness tonic, Brahmi supports memory, focus, mental clarity, and helps reduce stress and mild anxiety. It is also used traditionally for skin health, digestion, and overall rejuvenation.

Medicinal Benefits

Brahmi is highly regarded in traditional medicine for its adaptogenic and neuroprotective properties. It helps:

  • Enhance memory and cognitive function
  • Support nervous system health and stress resilience
  • Promote healthy skin and wound healing
  • Assist in digestion and mild inflammation

It’s a great choice for anyone interested in herbal wellness, home apothecaries, or natural remedies in the Port Stephens and Hunter Region area.

Growing Brahmi from Cuttings

We now sell Brahmi as fresh cuttings, they are best planted in a pot first. It is very easy to strike, and if you keep it damp and in shade in a good potting mix, you will have 100% success. Brahmi loves wet feet and thrives in permanently moist soil. If you don’t have a naturally damp spot, plant the cuttings in a pot with a flooded saucer or any vessel that holds water. While Brahmi is not truly aquatic, it flourishes in consistently damp conditions.

Brahmi is frost-sensitive, but I used to overwinter it indoors. It is a good candidate for apartment gardeners.

How Brahmi Fits in Your Garden

This low-growing, creeping herb makes an attractive green groundcover in damp, permanent moist spots or as a pondside plant. Brahmi can cope with sun, but prefers semi-shade or shade. Brahmi has small leaves and looks very cute and decorative. In soil, it is more ground-hugging in containers with standing water; brahmi creates a spill-over effect.
