Food Forest Plants

Food Forest Plants Market

Meet Food Forest Plants:

Hi, I’m Nicola. I used to run Mountain Herbs in Katoomba. I am from Germany, and I have always wanted to grow bananas, passionfruit, and tropical plants. Here we are in the Port Stephens area, growing two food forests.

And I’m Michal, a forest engineer from the Czech Republic. I love the idea of food forests and self-sufficiency. I am also a horticulturist by trade and an avid meditator.

More than just a plant nursery

We are both plant nerds and love collecting unusual plants. But we also love exploring permaculture principles, Ernst Goetsch’s syntropic food forest methods, Peter Andrews, Sepp Holzer and more.

Our approach to food gardening edible gardening emphasizes low-input and low-cost and low-mintenance methods.

Visit Our Nursery in Tea Gardens

We are growing all the plants we sell ourselves and we are tending our gardens. Therefore, our nursery is only open on Fridays and Saturdays 9-4 pm. In case we are away, we will let you know through our FB page.

In case you can’t come in person even though the Myall Lakes are really special, you can still order plants online.

We Grow Two Gardens

Moving around, we have experience growing food in Brisbane, Sydney and cool Katoomba. Now we have two gardens with very different soils. We know how easy and how hard growing food can be.

The Home Garden

We have a small garden around our house in Tea Gardens, a bit more than 300 m2 on sandy soil. We are developing this garden into a highly productive home garden, with an annual raised bed garden and a food forest. This is where we sell our plants.

Our Wild Garden

In the same coastal warm-temperate climate we are gardening on 3/4 of an acre of poorly drained clay soil with low-nutrient content. This garden is that tests us as gardeners, missing soil fertility, missing tilth, high water table and soil compaction combined. The kangaroos and birds love us! We are seeing the first signs of improvement.

Our Vision....

is an edible garden in every backyard, productive suburbs, independence from supermarkets, growing, brewing, making and living.
