About This Plant
Coffee Arabica Seedlings – Edible Cherries, Indoor & Food Forest
Grow Your Own Coffee at Home
These are about 20cm tall, but still young. Coffee plants are very decorative, so much that it used to be the plant to enliven boring offices (that was back in the 80’s in Germany). If you live in a cooler climate, like here in Port Stephens you may bring the plant inside in the first winter, but later it will be hardy in coastal areas at least as far South as Sydney I reckon.
Edible Parts & Uses
Coffee cherries (fruit): Edible and mildly sweet; the seeds inside are your familiar coffee beans.
Leaves: Can be used occasionally in herbal infusions.
Dual-purpose: Decorative as an indoor plant and productive as a food forest understory.
Growing & Care
Light: Partial shade; avoid full sun. Ideal as an understory plant in food forests or under fruit trees or bananas.
Soil: Well-draining, rich, slightly acidic soil, mulch.
Water: Keep evenly moist, avoid waterlogging.
Climate: Suitable for Australian coastal and subtropical regions.
Indoor Growing: Thrives as a decorative indoor plant with bright, indirect light.
Winter Care: Young seedlings may struggle in winter, especially in pots. Protect or move indoors to improve survival.
