Sweet Potato ‘Hawaiian’ plant, Ipomoea batatas, 3 unrooted cuttings

About This Plant

🌱 You will receive 3 unrooted cuttings, already prepared to stick in propagation medium (such as sharp sand). Sweet potatoes are incredibly easy to root – they will even sprout in a glass of water!

Different sweet potato varieties vary in flavour, texture, colour, and cooking qualities. The ‘Hawaiian’ type has whitish skin and purple flesh, producing a drier tuber compared to the common orange supermarket types.

Health Benefits

🍠 Sweet potatoes are a true superfood. They are rich in dietary fibre, antioxidants, and vitamin A (especially orange-fleshed types). Purple varieties like ‘Hawaiian’ are packed with anthocyanins, powerful antioxidants that may support heart health and reduce inflammation. Eating a mix of colours maximises your nutrient intake.

Edible Uses

✔ The tubers are delicious baked, roasted, steamed, or mashed.
✔ The young leaves and shoots can be eaten as spinach – a mild leafy green for stir-fries, curries, or soups.

Growing Notes

🌞 Plant in full sun for best tuber development.
🌱 Grows well in containers, raised beds, or traditional garden soil.
❄️ Not frost-hardy – overwinter indoors as slips or potted plants.
✂️ Space cuttings about 30–40 cm apart for good yields.
💧 Prefers well-drained soil and regular watering during the growing season.

Harvest & Storage

Harvest when the vines start to yellow back. Cure tubers in a warm, dry place for 1–2 weeks to improve sweetness and storage life. Properly cured, they can store for months. Otherwise, you can leave them in the ground to be harvested as needed.
