Bush Basil Plant – Native Australian Herb for the Mediterranean Kitchen (Plectranthus graveolens)

About This Plant

Bush Basil (Plectranthus graveolens) – Tough Native Herb for Garden, Patio & Food Forests

Hardy & Fast-Growing

Very tough and fast-growing, Bush Basil is perfect even for gardeners with less-than-green thumbs. This hardy plant can reach 1.5 m high and 2 m wide, and responds well to severe pruning, making it ideal for shaping or container gardening. This one survived the big wet when nearly all of my other thymes died.

Versatile Growing Conditions

Thrives in full sun or part-shade, in sandy or poor soil, and even in pots – perfect for patios, balconies, or small urban gardens.

Flavour & Culinary Uses

Its aromatic leaves carry a flavour somewhere between oregano, sage, and mint, and pair beautifully with garlic, tomatoes, or pizza.

Traditional Uses

Traditionally used as a medicinal and ceremonial herb, Bush Basil adds both beauty and utility to your garden.

Other Names

Also known as Native Coleus, Mountain Plectranthus, or Sticky Cockspur.
