Overview
This tropical edible plant resembles Alligator Weed (Alternanthera sessilis) but is a close relative with solid stems, unlike the hollow stems of Alligator Weed. Mukunawenna is a semi-aquatic and is perfectly happy in a tub thus very suited to edible patio gardens.

Easily grown, prefers boggy conditions as it is a semi-aquatic. Thrives in full sun to part shade and tolerates a variety of soil types.
Growth Habit
A fast-growing, low-maintenance plant with a spreading habit. Height usually reaches 30–50 cm, forming a dense mat of colourful foliage. Regular trimming encourages bushier growth.
Culinary Uses
Young leaves and stems can be eaten fresh in salads, stir-fried, or lightly steamed. Ensure solid stems are cooked thoroughly if using mature leaves.
