Canadian Goldenrod – Kidney-Supporting Herb & Bee-Friendly Garden Plant

Please note! The plants don’t look good at the moment, because it is late in the season and they want to go to flower. Once planted Canadian Goldenrod will do that, then go dormant to sprout again in spring.

Cheerful Yellow Flowers for Autumn

Canadian Goldenrod produces bright yellow blooms in early autumn, adding color and height to your garden. Its tall, upright growth habit also makes it a favorite for attracting bees and other pollinators.

Medicinal Benefits

This versatile herb has a long history of supporting kidney and urinary health. Traditionally, it has been used for:

• Urinary tract infections and kidney stones
• Bladder and urinary system inflammation (recognized by German Commission E)
• Allergic rhinitis and seasonal allergies
• Colds, flu, wounds, and sore throats

Goldenrod can also be brewed into a fragrant herbal tea with antioxidants reportedly up to seven times higher than green tea. 

Growing Conditions & Care

Canadian Goldenrod is low-maintenance and adaptable. It prefers moderately fertile, moisture-retentive soil and grows well in full sun or semi-shade. Mature plants reach around 1.8 meters in height and 1 meter in width, making them suitable for both garden beds and larger landscapes. 

Goldenrod can easily cope with any frost Australia has to show and grows at least as far North as Port Stephens. It spreads via stolons and forms a colony over time – it must be kept under control.
