Native Leek is a member of the family Asphodelaceae. It looks very similar to the American Yellow Asphodel. This bush tucker plant is found wild from central Queensland to Tasmania and South Australia. It grows in a variety of habitats and is associated with water retentive soils or soils which are seasonally inundated, such as near swamps.

It will grow in full or part sun and tolerates a variety of soils provided reasonable drainage is available. It is also frost hardy making it suitable for regions with cooler climates. B. bulbosa is best maintained with regular watering throughout the year. During dry weather plants can die back to the rootstock, however with frequent wat withstands frosts. I

The sweet and starchy corms and roots were considered as good food. However it takes more than a season to grow to an edible size. The leaves are not edible.

This plant looks nice in rockeries, cottage gardens and native edible gardens.

Full-sun to part shade. Suitable for containers, 0.4x 03 meters.
